I want to make a few tracks in Garage Band guitar, keyboard, bass and then record my Roland V-drums along with them as I listen to the tracks. I'd like to do this with any generic line in, actually. What cables do I need, and how do I set this up in Garage Band?
I have seen other posts allude to various methods but one question I have not seen clarified is: Will I be able to hear the other tracks on the Ipad as I play along with them? Posted on Dec 30, PM. Take look at i rig. While it is built for guitar primarily, their schict is a device that provides an audio in throught the headphone jack, while you hear the output, i cluding the existing tracks, on the headphones.
It works great with their app, and i understand the device works with garage band, although i have not tried.Using an iRig to Record Electronic Drums
The app is or used to be free because they want to sell you the connector. Thank you, that did just what I wanted.Stop itunes download in progress
It also works in GarageBand if you select guitar amp as an instrument. Select a clean amp for input and turn monitor on, and you can hear whatever you're piping in via the iRig along with the other stuff you have already recorded.
You then connect the device to the headphone jack on the iPad. There is a small female end on the iRig for a headphone to plug into. This allowed me to set up a bass and one other instrument playing on the iPad as I recorded my drums. To record the drums, I created a track with the Guitar Amp as an input, selected a clean amp as the amp of choice you can add effects if you like, but I just wanted as true a sound as I could get. There is an icon on the upper left hand of the screen that looks like a jack or a plug.
Select that and turn the monitor on to allow you to hear the sound on your headphones. Jan 1, AM.

Drums & Percussion
The quick answer is Yes! I'd bet that with the right adaptors maybe an iRig you could record analog, from the sounds on your brain.
But you can also record midi, which is what I did. Just open the drum set in iPad Garageband: kick, snare, crash, three toms, the bow and foot pedal on hat, and top of the ride all work perfectly, with dynamics according to how I'm playing my drum kit.
Might be able to adjust both of these through the Roland brain. In any case, it was plug and play: played and recorded a sweet groove very easily!Ian Graham on Apr 27, in iPad 0 comments. If you're lucky enough to have a seat close to the stage, it's quite an experience to see the "Professor" up close and actually hear his drum sound coming from the stage.
So on with the tutorial Stereo is crucial if you want to get a fat sound. IK Multimedia has released the cool iRig microphone but it's mono and you can't combine 2 of them on the iPad. Now, this being said, perhaps you're going for a mono drum sound like the Beatles. Griffin iMic or the upcoming Alesis iO Dock with a multichannel mixer and your own mic collection. The only caveat in this setup is that you will need to not only balance your volume levels between the mics but also pan and EQ them to the sound you want BEFORE you record.
GB does not allow volume, pan or EQ separation of each mic after the recording is done as it's a stereo file. Here's hoping Ver. The other issue I came across was the headphone output of the iMic is low especially when playing the drums. You can either get a headphone amp or plug in the outputs of the iMic to your mixer and setup an aux monitor section.
Be careful though to properly assign this headphone mix as you don't want to end up recording the metronome click and music tracks to your drum track. Also, if you need to assign different MIDI note mappings to the pads, this will have to be done in Korg's editing software on your Mac. Mic positioning "Roll the Bones" : mics and it captures the kit superbly with a nice room sound. If you're not sure of what his technique is, just do a Google search for "Glynn Johns".
When using just a stereo mic, experimentation is key with the distance from the drums, in line with the kick or snare, placing it as an overhead, etc. I've lost count as to the amount of recordings I've heard from bands recording themselves on a budget with poorly tuned drums.
When properly done, even cheap drums can sound great and if you're not sure on how to tune, check out this tutorial on Recording Drums. The room you place your drums in will also be key to it's tone. Try to find a room with high ceilings, wood panel walls, or soft furniture to absorb and disperse the sound.
Drums are LOUD and in a small, low ceiling room will cause all sorts of problems. Empty rooms with dampening can also cause standing wave problems.Samsung security policy
Perhaps ask friends with appropriate rooms or even small churches if you can spend some time recording. Lastly, get moving blankets or office dividers if the room is close but not quite perfect in sound to help alleviate problems such as slap back or an overly loud kick drum. Recording then looping sections Subdivisions. In a previous tutorial, I explained how GB does things in "Song Sections" where you can specify how many bars each section is. Here's a trick though for drummers that's useful especially with demo's of songs or for experimentation of new ideas.
Set your "Song Section" to "Automatic" so that it will record an infinite number of bars. Here's an example. Duplicate the track by tapping on the track icon and hitting "duplicate".
A second track will appear but it will be empty. We have two options to get parts pieced on the duplicated track.Adco aem5
You can "copy" the recorded parts and "paste" them into the duplicated track to form the song. Be sure to select the duplicate track after copying or you will be pasting over the original and move your playhead to where you want to paste the part in. Looping is also available on these parts so you can easily repeat good takes.ElliottGarage presents EGDR, a drum machine that emulates the vintage hardware from the 80's with all the facilities of modern software.
Its realistic and clear interface recalls the analog machine from the past, for all the vintage fanatics. You can also share your drum patterns with iTunes filse sharing or Audio Copy. I was really hoping that the low review from the other party was just a fluke however I just purchased this wanting to have something like an old and I find that the right third of the machine is not showing any buttons on my iPhone 6.
Not happy with this at all however I am curious if the developer can fix this. I was still having problems however the developer responded and is aware of the issues and looking at getting them all fixed. That being said, I find this a great little app to re-create that sound. I thank the developer for responding and listening to the reviews and working on improving the app. Thanks for reporting the issue. I've found that the app don't load correctly the interface if launched in portrait mode, but it needs to be started with the phone already in landscape mode.
I'm gonna fix it in the next update. While many drum apps take vintage sounds and repurpose them with a modern step sequencer, EGDR like its competitor Boom! While the app sounds good, the issue is that the TR isn't exactly user-friendly.
The machine asks you to program pretty much everything using the 16 step keys along the bottom, plus some other combination of "shift" and "instrument" key modifiers. More experienced users may have no problem, but it's a fair warning to some. So you have pitch, decay, and snappy controls for your instruments, and it sounds very convincing.
You can't export a measure-sized loop that I can findbut rather use the record feature and then export that loop through the file management screen. Also, not sure why EGDR was universal, but this app is not maybe later. But at this price, there's little to regret. For the price it sounds decent, not great, but passable. Use with Audiobus to send through some effects and EQ and it starts to sound good.
However, the EG apps all suffer from the same problem. It turns out that this is true, even for us drummers. Now many drumming apps available are marketed towards non-drummers and kids. I have no idea how this works, but it must have something to do with the shake functionality inside of new smartphones.
Not anymore. In the default kit configuration, you have a kick drum, snare drum, three toms, hi-hat, two crashes, a ride, a china, a cowbell, and a tambourine. For a drumming app, the default kit sounds surprisingly good. The cymbals sound real and the tone of the drums is not bad at all. This service is a separate monthly fee that allows you to download drumless tracks directly to the app to play along with.
The app can help you tune based off either the center overall tone or individual edge frequencies. Saving presets is no problem, either. The user interface is sleek, clean, and very easy to use. This area is what I would consider to be your basic digital metronome, complete with tempo, time signatures, subdivision variation, song duration, and tap tempo.
There are four square icons that are fractioned into three parts.
Depending on which level 0, 1, 2, or 3 is set determines what pitch the count will beep at. For example, If you set them all to position 1, the click track will be one constant low tone. This feature is useful in situations where you only want the metronome on certain beats or if you want different accents throughout the bar. It reminds me of the Apple Watch, but round I wonder if this thing has a clock, would be nice. Many drummers these days play along to backing tracks with their respective bands.
If the band happens to use a digital audio workstation like Ableton Live to run their tracks, the show can be started off-stage using a handy app known as TouchOSC. In that time, we decided to add a playback system to help reinforce the music we play live.Roland Global Official Fan Page.
